We were called out to remove this large Holm Oak in Maidstone, Kent. As the tree was under a tree preservation order (TPO) we needed to apply with the local authority to have permission to remove the tree due to concerns about its structural integrity. First, we removed the canopy using a grapple saw truck to mechanically assist with the operation for utmost safety, due to the size of the tree.
Inspecting the tree we identified several large Ganoderma brackets around the base. Ganoderma brackets are a type of fungus that can significantly weaken the base of a tree, causing decay and rot in the heartwood of the tree. Of course, if this were to have happened to this tree it could have had devastating consequences. We removed the remaining lower timber and lifted this away leaving the stump. We then ground the remaining tree stump to completely clear the area.
This tree felling and removal presented multiple challenges to the safety of the surrounding properties and the public. As qualified arborists, we were able to efficiently remove the tree using our extensive knowledge and specialist equipment to assist in the safe removal and disposal of the tree.
